Frequency Response Measurement & Correction

The Audeze MM-500 is one of the flattest headphones we have measured. The +2.5 dB 1 kHz peak makes lead vocals and instruments sound a bit “nasally” and pushing them too far forward in the mix. The +5 dB peak at 3 kHz, which is in the ears most sensitive range, not only pushes the mix forward in that range, but also gives lead vocals/instruments an exaggerated edge to the sound quality. While not shown in the chart these headphones high frequency response is a bit on the dull side compared to neutral.

Engaging the high-resolution convolution filter transforms these headphones into a highly accurate sound reproducer worthy of the mastering moniker for these headphones. Ruler flat response +- 0.5 dB from 20 Hz up to the headphone cutoff of 6 kHz. Through hours of listening, the overall high frequency response has been lifted by 1 dB which makes up for the slight HF dullness of these headphones. This also results in a wider sound stage.
