Frequency Response Measurement & Correction
The Audeze LCD-R is a special headphone. Measures quite flat, reminiscent of the Audeze LCD-4. Bass starts to roll off slowly from 200 Hz and is -4 dB down at 25 Hz. There is bit of a midrange bump between 600 Hz to 1.5 kHz which pushes the lead vocals and instruments a bit forward in the mix and sounds like a bit too much midrange. There is a dip in response in our ears most sensitive range from 2 kHz to 5 kHz which pushes back the upper midrange of the lead vocals and instruments. This combination tends to make the headphone sound a bit on the dark side.
Engaging the high-resolution convolution FIR filter provides a flat response from 25 Hz to 4 kHz within +-0.25 dB tolerance. Incredibly smooth response with a unique sounding top end with the ribbon drivers. The two filtersets provided are identical except one has 1 dB more high frequency response. This allows you to choose how much high frequency energy is arriving at your ears.

Definitely worth the purchase! The LCD-R are a special set of cans, but Mitch has worked magic here to balance things out.
I can’t go back to no filter now that I’ve heard it bring the best out of the R’s.
