Frequency Response Measurement & Correction
Th ES Lab ES-1a is bright sounding headphone. Looking at the measured frequency response, the bass starts rolling off with a bump at 60 Hz and is -3 dB down at 30 Hz. The broadband +4dB peak at 1.3 kHz pushes the lead vocals/instruments far forward in the mix with a distinct coloration of sound. Exacerbated by the narrowband +6dB peak at 4.2 kHz in the upper midrange make these headphones thin sounding.
Engaging the high-resolution convolution filter reveals a gem of a headphone with outstanding resolution. With +-0.5 dB frequency tolerance throughout the convolution filters active range, the sound quality ranks amongst the best in this catalogue of headphones for transparency.
